ONITSHA TANKER FIRE: 13 BUILDINGS, 16 VEHICLES, AND 3 FILLING STATIONS AFFECTED
Following the assessment conducted on the Onitsha Tanker Fire incident in Anambra state by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in conjunction with Anambra state emergency management agency (ANSEMA), it was discovered that 13 buildings, 16 vehicles, 3 filling stations were burnt down and two persons were seriously injured.
The fire outbreak which wrecked havoc on residential and commercial buildings,as well as makeshift shops, while goods worth millions of Naira were destroyed. Also affected were Fifty (50) petty trading stores and three (3) tricyclespopularly known as Keke Napep.
A damage and need assessment was carried out by the agencies with a view of assisting the affected persons.
NEMA South east, Zonal coordinator, Udeiya Martin Ejike advised Motorists to always ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles to avoid frequent accidents on the road, as the agency has recorded several fire incidents of the recent. Precautionary measures should always be taken to avoid undue destruction of properties such as this in the future.
It would recall that at 8pm on Wednesday last week, a fuel tanker with a failed brake at Oguta road roundabout, ran into Mobil Filling Station and consequently fell down spilling out fuel all over the surroundings through the water channel, and fire thereafter followed the spillage pattern.
