This Privacy Policy explains how Everyday.ng (“Nigeria Everyday”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information about visitors to https://everyday.ng. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Who we are

Everyday.ng is a Nigerian online news publication operated by Alifad Daniel. For any question about this policy or your personal data, email info@everyday.ng.

Information we collect

  • Information you give us: if you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser details to help prevent spam. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
  • Information collected automatically: like most websites, our server and the services described below record technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and the date and time of your visit.
  • Cookies: small files stored on your device. See “Cookies and your choices” below.

How we use your information

  • To run the website, display content and keep it secure.
  • To publish and moderate comments.
  • To understand which articles readers find useful and improve our coverage (analytics).
  • To show advertising, which keeps Everyday.ng free to read.
  • To reply to messages you send us.

We do not sell your personal data.

Third-party services

  • Google Analytics: measures how visitors use the site. Google may use cookies to collect usage data. Learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google AdSense: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
  • Gravatar: if you comment, an anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture. Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/.
  • Google Fonts: fonts on the site are loaded from Google, which receives your IP address when they load.
  • Social sharing buttons: the Facebook, X, WhatsApp and LinkedIn share buttons are simple links. Those services only receive information if you click a button and use their site.
  • Embedded content: articles may include embedded videos or posts from other websites. These behave as if you visited the other website and may collect data about you.

Cookies and your choices

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, such as analytics and advertising cookies. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings button on the site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly without them. Essential cookies, for example those that remember your cookie choice or keep logged-in staff signed in, are always used.

How long we keep information

Comments and their details are kept for as long as the comment remains on the site. Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. Analytics and advertising data are kept by Google according to its own retention settings.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent at any time. To make a request, email info@everyday.ng. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

Security

The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure.

Children

Everyday.ng is a general news website and is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
