How PDP was privatised at convention, by Gulak

Must read

Estranged member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Political Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, believes that the party lost its opportunity to reconcile its aggrieved members at the last national convention, because of the brazen impubity displayed there.
His position on the future of the party is grim: “In my own estimation only some miracles can save the party from total collapse.”
Touted to be on his way to another party, he also scoffed at the declaration, in Ekiti, by party head, Uche Secondus, that all party primaries will be open.
His reaction to Secondus’ promise: “Open but closed as was done in the convention.”
He adds: “The last elective national convention was supposed to have been transparent, credible, free and fair if only the PDP would get it right, pick up the pieces rebuild and prepare for 2019.
“But that was not so. Impunity was taken to the highest level and the party was privatised.
“The unity list of the Governors was the last stroke that broke the camel’s back and led some aspirants to storm out of the convention signalling the total failure to restore confidence and trust.”
On the era of Ali Modu Sheriff, the infamous chairman of the party sent packing by the highest court in the land, Gulak said he was literally drafted by Governors Nyesom Wike and Ayo Fayose of Ekiti.
“(They) thought they could manipulate him to always do their bidding all times every time. He was too hard a nut to crack and they turned against him. He fought impunity (and) was succeeding before the supreme court judgement.
“Makarfi became a tool in the hands of these two governors. He skewed the process in accordance with their dictates and Secondus was again foisted on the party,” he adds.
According to Gulak, the ruling APC is having a field day and the present leadership of the PDP cannot, in his assessment, present any problem to it.
He said further, “Many serious senior stakeholders are leaving the party. Some members of the House of Representatives have decamped to the APC as a result of the total failure of the PDP convention to restore confidence and trust.
