After a hard fought battle, Governor Willie Obiano, proved political bookmakers right as he coasted home to victory. At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, he was officially declared winner to retain his seat with more than 50% of votes cast in Saturday’s gubernatorial elections in Anambra State.
He is now Governor-elect and will be sworn-in soon, just as his supporters erupted in rapturous celebrations all over the State as results poured in.
In the final results declared by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Zanna Akpagu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance polled 234,071 votes of total votes of 422,314 valid votes cast.
The first runner-up, Dr. Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), got 98,752 votes; Dr. Oseloka Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 70,293 votes; while Osita Chidoka of the United Peoples Party came fourth with 7,903 votes.
In all 448,771 were accredited to vote.
