Nigeria generates 7,000 MW of electricity as Jonathan asks Fashola: Why have you not fixed Nigeria’s power problems in over two years?

Must read

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, is claiming at a book launch in Lagos that Nigeria’s power generation has risen from 2600MW to 7000MW between 2015 to 2017, but former President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday paid him back in his coin for snide remark in 2015 that a serious government could fix Nigeria’s power problem in six months.
29 months down the line, Jonathan is wondering why Fashola who has been in charge of power for 24 months has not been able to improve deteriorating power supply.
However, supply is expected by analysts to worsen until the next raining circle when the hydro-electric power dams will fill up again to push turbines.
There will be an improvement in supply in the last week of December and first week of January (2018) when many offices and factories will shut down for the end of year, and power will be freed for distribution to households during the Christmas festive season.
Jonathan spoke in Abuja Thursday when played host to one of the national chairmanship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, visited him.
Jonathan’s words: “The PDP administration for 16 years did well and will continue to do well but this administration has done nothing. They deployed propaganda and lies at a professional level.
“In the power sector, we did well to revive it. A state governor attacked our government, saying that any serious government should be able to fix the power challenge within six months.
“Today, APC has been in power for how many years now? Fortunately the then governor is in the APC government as a minister.”
On PDP, he said the party needed a national chairman that will select credible and reliable candidates for various elective offices at the various levels of government from the presidency down to the councillorship.
“We need a national chairman who will be courageous enough to caution the President if we win the Presidency and the President is going astray,” he said, adding that the expectation of the PDP was a “national chairman who will rule the party democratically and carry others along,” he added.
