Beginning November 28, a polce television and radio channel will be brought to the television and radio sets of Nigerians as the proposed Nigeria Police Broadcasting Service (NPBS) will begin to beam signals to 19 States of the federation
On the same date, a fund-raiser will be held for the project which is a public-private partnership between the Police and a private firm.
The remaining 17 States are expected to join in signal reception as time goes on.
Chief Executive Officer of the project, Mr. Ediri Jerry Wesley, said the project includes a social media component.
It will also have an all important emergency control centre.
A unique feature of the project is that broadcast will be in local languages in the states in addition to English and its more popular pidgin form.
His words:  “The NPBS will focus on four areas of operations (TV, Radio, Online and Emergency Control Centre). The project which is a Public Private Partnership with the Nigeria Police will help to curb insecurity by prompt respond to emergency situations.
“The NPBS will focus on four areas of operations. The project which is a Public Private Partnership with the Nigeria Police will help to curb insecurity by prompt respond to emergency situations.”
Wesley said Wednesday night that the project, which has been in the works for years, was made possible by the doggedness and determination of present Inspector-General, Ibrahin Kpotun Idris, because of his genuine desire to stem the growing tide of crime and criminality in the country.
He noted that while previous Police bosses showed interest in the laudable project, it was Idris that brought it to fruition because he saw the need to tackle crime and criminality with the use of modern day methods.
Wesley commended the present administration for its efforts in getting the project off the ground adding that equipment have been brought in from Glasgow in Scotland, and China.
According to him, not less than 5, 000 Nigerians will be engaged, while 50 expatriates will be on ground to train Nigerians for three years.
