EFCC storms, searches Adoke’s Kano home

Must read

The drama over the $1.3 billion Malabu Oil scandal continues to spin at break-neck speed. The Kano home of former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. Mohammed Adoke, was Wednesday raided in what a source describes as a gestapo style operation.
It was Shell Petroleum which started the drama a few days ago admitting it bribed Nigerian officials. Then the name of former President Goodluck Jonathan popped up as one of the alleged beneficiaries. He vehemently denied, and berated journalists for not using the Freedom of Information law he signed to conduct a thorough investigation.
But Wednesday, a source affiliated to Adoke released information that his Kano home was search without a warrant.
The information via email reads:
EFCC RAIDS ADOKE HOUSE IN KANO
“Some EFCC operatives today raided the house of a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN).
“They found nothing after breaking down the doors of his residence in Kano.
“There was no evidence of a search warrant but they broke down some doors, searched everywhere and the roof.
“No information on the actual mission of the operatives.
“This invasion is without deference to the ongoing cases in court against the ex-AGF
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, did not respond to phone calls and a text message from everyday.ng, but was quoted on another reliable platform as confirming the raid which he said was in line with EFCC’s official functions.
The EFCC search team, it was gathered, were in search of documents related to the Malabu Oil scandal for which the commission has charged Adoke and eight others.
Adoke has been in the Netherlands where he is said to be pursuing an academic course of study and is known to have been questioned by Italian investigators working on the involvement of Italian oil giant, ENI, operating in Nigeria as Agip.
He has often sworn to his innocence in the Malabu deal, but has not returned to the country to face the charges against him for what many interpret as his lack of trust for the prosecuting authorities. He has accused a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and others as been behind his travails.
