Olamaboro council chairman mourns ‘Hon. Rosella’ as burial is scheduled for Ogugu Centre

A serving councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Hon. Rosemary Aduku, has died after spending several days in captivity, throwing her family, colleagues and constituents into mourning.

Aduku’s death was announced on Friday, October 9, 2026, by the Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the local government’s executive council. News reports said she had been held captive for days before her death, although the precise circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.

The council chairman did not provide details about the circumstances of her captivity or explain what led to her death. Information about the identities of those responsible and whether any ransom was demanded or paid was also not disclosed by the the Chairman.

But Everyday.ng gathered that the councillor, who is also a businesswoman, was kidnapped along with other passengers on their way to Anambra State on Independence day.

“She was the only who did not have any cash on her, as the story goes, so she was taken into the forest. But she had an ATM Card with her, and other passengers were let go after they were robbed. I heard one of them informed the husband, also a businessman, as soon as they reached a phone,” the source.

For some days no one heard any demand for ransom until her body was discovered on Thursday in Anambra State and was brought to Ogugu for burial.

it was learnt that the security forces tracked her telephone number and found it with someone who led detectives to where her body was found. He is said to be assisting the Police in investigations.

Colleagues remember her as humble and dependable

Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, was remembered by Williams as a humble, dependable and compassionate individual who cared about the happiness and well-being of those around her.

In the statement announcing her death, the chairman expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing her as a valued member of the 8th Olamaboro Legislative Council whose contributions and personal qualities would remain in the memories of those she left behind.

“It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the Honorable Councilor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward 3 in the 8 Olamaboro Legislative Council,” the statement read.

Williams further described her as a down-to-earth person who could be relied upon and whose concern was to make people around her happy.

“She has been a reliable fellow whose idea is to make everyone around her happy. Though your life was short lived but we will definitely take solace in your legacies and testimonies we have received since your demise,” the statement added.

The chairman’s tribute highlighted the personal loss suffered by the local government’s legislative and executive arms, as well as the wider Ogugu community.

Burial arrangements announced

As part of the announcement, the Olamaboro Local Government Council said Aduku’s burial was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at her family compound in Ogugu Centre.

The council also invited members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend the ceremony and pay their final respects to the deceased councillor.

Williams extended condolences to Aduku’s family, members of the Olamaboro Legislative Council, the local government executive council and residents of Ogugu District. He prayed for God to grant them the strength to endure the loss.

“Adieu Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku,” the statement concluded.

Questions remain over the circumstances of her death

While the local government’s announcement confirmed the death and outlined the burial arrangements, it did not provide a detailed account of the events that preceded her death.
