Tributes poured in from across Nigeria and beyond as the late Ozo MNC Nwofor, widely regarded as a founding pillar of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, was laid to rest in Anambra State.
Speaking at the burial ceremony, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, described the late Nwofor as a visionary who embraced the state government’s development drive at an early stage.
According to him, Nwofor strongly believed in the progress and growth of the state.
“From all indications, he believed deeply in the development of Anambra State. His investments in hospitality, petrol stations, factories, hostels, and classroom facilities clearly demonstrated his commitment to the state’s economic advancement,” Ibezim said.
The burial attracted dignitaries from across the country and abroad, including personalities from academia, politics, manufacturing, and the business community.
Many speakers described Nwofor as a man of immense generosity, peace, and compassion, whose contributions left lasting marks in education and community development.
He is widely acknowledged as a major benefactor and foundational supporter of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka. Nwofor was also instrumental in the early development of the Anambra State University of Science and Technology, which later evolved into Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
In the early days of the institution, he reportedly donated buildings that served as the first classrooms, offices, and residential facilities, enabling the university to begin operations and grow.
In his remarks, the head of the family, Barrister Chuma Nwofor, expressed appreciation to all who attended the burial ceremony.
He urged family members and associates to uphold the late patriarch’s legacy by promoting peace, unity, and dedication to the ideals he cherished.
Chuma Nwofor noted that following the values and guidance of their late father would help the family consolidate and expand on the achievements he left behind.
