The United Evangelical Church (UEC), formerly known as the Qua Iboe Church (QIC), Ungwar Shanu and now located in Challawa, Barnawa, will celebrate 65 years of ministry in Northern Nigeria with a landmark anniversary and fundraising event.

The two-day celebration, scheduled for the 21st and 22nd of this month, marks a significant milestone for the local assembly and its nearly 138-year-old denomination. The event is expected to attract members, former congregants and invited guests from within and outside the state.

Speaking ahead of the anniversary, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, Emmah Uhieneh Adah, described the occasion as both a time of thanksgiving and a moment to cast fresh vision for the future.

“For 65 years, God has sustained this Assembly through trials and opposition. We have remained resolute in our divine mandate to preach the Gospel and build lives,” he said.

Established in Northern Nigeria as part of the broader UEC movement, the church has grown into a strong spiritual and social presence within its host community, contributing to both moral development and community growth.

As part of the anniversary activities, the church has unveiled plans for a modern Metropolitan Worship Centre estimated at ₦500 million. The proposed facility will include a 1,000-seat auditorium, four additional worship halls, conference rooms, classrooms for children, a secretariat for the Area Conference and a residence for the Congregational Minister.

According to organisers, the project will be built on an expansive piece of land to accommodate the church’s growing membership and future expansion plans.

Church leaders have appealed to members, families, corporate organisations and well-wishers to support the fundraising drive, expressing confidence that the ambitious target can be achieved through collective effort.

Adah noted that while the project may appear daunting, the church remains optimistic about its realisation.

The anniversary celebration, he added, is not only a commemoration of the church’s 65-year journey in Northern Nigeria but also a renewed commitment to sustaining its mission for generations to come.
