Stars shine bright as Imo celebrates film icons and media trailblazers

The highly anticipated International Students Film Festival (ISFF) 2025 concluded in Owerri, the picturesque capital of Imo State, with a glittering awards ceremony that celebrated excellence in filmmaking and entertainment.

The festival brought together an inspiring mix of emerging filmmakers and seasoned industry icons, including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Okey Ogujiefor—scriptwriter of the groundbreaking Nollywood classic Living in Bondage—Charles Awurum, comedian Chief Imo, HRM Eze Okey Bakassi, Obi Michael (SSA), Eucharia Anunobi, Victor Osuagwu, Nkiru Sylvanus, and Morris Solomon. Attendees from across Nigeria and beyond gathered to honor creativity, promote cultural exchange, and support the next generation of storytellers.

During the grand ceremony, Imo State–born movie stars, prominent entertainment journalists, and other distinguished Nigerians were recognized for their remarkable contributions to the industry. Awards were presented in categories spanning acting, cinematography, journalism, and overall filmmaking excellence, shining a spotlight on homegrown talent and inspiring innovation.

The three-day festival, held from Wednesday, November 19 to Friday, November 21, embraced the theme “Legacy.” It paid tribute to Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, a visionary filmmaker celebrated for his impactful storytelling and influential work across Africa.

In addition to film screenings, the event featured insightful panel discussions, a masterclass series, and showcases of inventive student films, further cementing ISFF’s mission to nurture budding creatives.

The success of the 2025 edition reaffirmed Owerri’s standing as a vibrant cultural hub and a growing powerhouse for artistic expression.
