Strange: Bauchi husband disguises as robber, pounds wife with pestle…just to sell family TV set

The ways of a man a man and his wife are truly strange. A man rushed in to tell his wife that his house was under attack by armed robbers, advised her to cover her head with a scarf, rushed to another room to cover his own head with another scarf, moved into the kitchen area to pick a pestle and proceeded to attack his wife with it.

That story is straight from the Police in Bauchi State, which says the husband has confessed to the crime, is cooling his heels behind bars, and awaiting prosecution for attempted murder.

The Police story as told at the weekend by its spokesman in Bauchi, Superintendent Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, in a statement, reads:

Detectives attached to ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi have arrested Tijjani Ahmadu Diye ‘m’ aged 35yrs for Assault, Causing Grievous Hurt and Attempt to commit an offence to-wit Culpable homicide.

On receipt of the report, a team of detectives were drafted to the scene and evacuated the victim to Specialist Hospital Bauchi, where she was accorded necessary medical attention.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that the suspect admitted the allegation against him without much resistance. In his confession, the suspect raised false alarm that armed robbers entered their house. He quickly entered the bedroom, met his wife and asked her to cover her head with a scarf. He moved out of the room, covered his face with a scarf, armed himself with a pestle came back to the bedroom, and started hitting her with the pestle.

The suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralise her and take their television and sell it in order to raise money to furnish his shop.

The Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc has directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation (CID) for discreet investigation to unravel more to the alleged occurrence, after which the suspect will be charged to Court for prosecution accordingly….
