Abducted Baptist High, Zamfara students freed

32 abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School, Maraban Damishi, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state, have regained their freedom, bringing the total of those released to 90.

This comes as abducted students of the College Of Agriculture and Animal Science Bakura, Zamfara State, regained their freedom, 12 days after gunmen whisked them away from the institution.

Governor Bello Matawalle said that the students were released on Friday through the help of some repentant bandits.

“Today, based on our dialogue and reconciliation, we used the repentant bandits to secure the release of these students,” he said.

“They have worked hard for almost 10 days. They are out day and night to make sure that they convinced those criminals to release those students and their teachers. (Alhamdulillah), today they are in our midst”.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, confirmed the release of the students  on Saturday, in Kaduna.

Said Hayab, according to media reports: “Yes, 32 of our students were freed on Friday evening. We still have 31 with the captors and we are praying that they too will be released soon”, he said though he was mum over the payment of ransom for the release of the Behel School students.

Kaduna State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammadu Jalige confirmed the release of the 32 students, NAN said.
