Farmers, herders clash near Abuja airport leaves three injured, properties destroyed

The bloody clash between farmers and herders in parts of Nigeria has come right to the neighbourhood of the Federal Capital City, where a less than five kilometres to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, both parties clashed and three persons were injured and properties destroyed.

At Iddo community, a settlement off the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Way (the airport expressway), and almost bordering the Muhammadu Buhari Military Cantoment, on Monday, thatched houses were set alight following a disagreement between the local people and herdsmen after the Fulani herdsmen allegedly grazed their cattle on their farms.

FCT Police spokeswoman, ASP Mariam Yusuf, said security personnel had taken care of the situation.

She disclosed in a statement:.The FCT Police Command has successfully restored calm along Iddo axis, following a farmers-herders clash that broke out between locals residing in a settlement within Iddo on Monday.

“The unfortunate clash left three persons with various degrees of injuries while some thatched houses were set ablaze within the area. The Commissioner of Police FCT, Bala Ciroma has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.”
