The National Chairman of the APC, Adam’s Oshiomhole is calling for the reshuffling of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), but the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opposes the suggestion.
Oshiomhole at an emergency caucus meeting of the APC on Monday in Abuja, even specifically threw up the name of Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State as one of the heads that should roll.
Meanwhile, the PDP is claiming Intelligence available to it that shows that the Presidency has allegedly directed the leadership of INEC to reshuffle the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in order to deploy compromised officials to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party..
Oshiomhole pointedly accused the election umpire of hobnobbing with the PDP by leaking plans to postpone elections to the party.
On allegations the APC was pushing for staggered elections to manipulate the process in its favour, the party chief denied adding that his party wants elections in the country simultaneously
In a statement, the PDP however said: “Our party is also aware of the pressure being mounted by the … Presidency on INEC to cancel elections in some states and make others inconclusive so as to achieve (the) objectives of a staggered election not minding the crisis such will trigger across the federation.
“We want Nigerians and the international community to hold President Buhari personally responsible for any electoral crisis, otherwise he will as usual, claim that he was not aware of the plots and transfer the blame to Adams Oshiomhole and Rotimi Amaechi.”
