A fire outbreak last night razed down no fewer than 22 shops, machineries, finished products, raw materials and other properties were destroyed at the Ekene Workshop cluster of Polythene Factories located at Awada -Obosi in Idemili North Council of Anambra State.
Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Haruna Mohammed(SP), noted that the sad occurrence happened at about 10:10pm when everyone had closed, gone home and were fast asleep.
He disclosed that on receipt of a distress call, a Police Patrol team attached to Awada Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Tony Adeyi, rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area for rescue mission and to prevent looters from taking advantage.
According to him, the Fire Service department was contacted but before their arrival, the fire was eventually contained through concerted efforts by the community who rushed to the scene and put off the fire.
He said preliminary inquiry revealed that the fire was suspected to have emanated from electric spark which affected about 22 shops.
He reiterated that a similar incident occurred at the same location sometimes in February, 2018 and that investigation was already going on now to ascertain circumstances surrounding this latest incident.
