The Kwara State House of Assembly has passed a bill to provide for the administration of Criminal Justice in all Courts in the State.
The bill with 490 clauses provides that there would be justice for both the victims and culprits, quick dispensation of criminal cases and synergy among all the stakeholders as well as permanently address persistent problem of awaiting trials n the State.
It will also ensure that the system of administration of criminal justice in Kwara state promotes efficient management of criminal justice institutions and speedy dispensation of justice.
The new bill is also expected to ensure protection of the society from crime and protection of the rights and interests of the suspect, the defendants and victims.
Speaking on the passage of the bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ali Ahmad, who expressed delight over the passage of the bill, assured that the new law will address crime administration in the country.
He pointed out that the prospective law will be the most efficient and sophisticated law on the subject matter in the country and directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimat Jummai Kperogi,to prepare a clean copy for the Governor’s assent.
Meanwhile, the House had passed a resolution asking the Force Headquarters of the Nigeria Police to return the transferred case of eight suspects caught with eleven human skulls to Ilorin this week.
This would be the third high profile criminal case police would transfer to Abuja this year. The first two became issues between the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Police.
Police had claimed that the arrested suspects had during interrogation had claimed links to the number three citizen.
The House however on Thursday demanded that the latest case of suspects with human skulls be returned to Kwara arguing that there was already an act in the state prohibiting trading in human parts.
They explained that courts in the state are statutorily equipped to try the case and related matters.
