Wike’s Son Jordan Faces EFCC Petition Over Alleged $2.1m Abuja Land Deal

Must read

Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is facing a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $2.1 million dispute involving a proposed land transaction in Abuja.

The petition was filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, who are asking the anti-graft agency to investigate allegations of fraud, obtaining money by false pretence, criminal misappropriation and conversion linked to the proposed acquisition of 60 hectares of land in the FCT.

According to the petitioners, the transaction involved an arrangement under which Jordan was expected to facilitate the acquisition of 30 hectares of land in Katampe and another 30 hectares in Guzape, both in Abuja.

The claimants alleged that $2.1 million was paid in connection with the proposed venture on September 26, 2025, during a meeting in Gwarinpa, Abuja. They maintained that the arrangement failed to proceed as agreed despite the payment.

The petitioners are seeking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction, including whether the funds were received and handled as claimed and whether any criminal offences were committed.

Jordan Denies Receiving the Money

However, Jordan has denied the allegations, telling the FCT High Court in Abuja that he did not receive the $2.1 million and disputing the authenticity of the document said to link him to the transaction.

During proceedings on September 30, 2026, he reportedly told the court that he was outside Nigeria on the date the petitioners claimed the money was handed over. He also presented his American international passport in support of his account.

Jordan further denied knowing one of the individuals the claimants identified as a witness to the alleged transaction and maintained that his signature on the disputed agreement was forged.

The competing accounts place the alleged payment and the authenticity of the supporting documents at the centre of the dispute.

Civil Suit Pending Before FCT High Court

The controversy is also the subject of a civil suit, marked CV/008/2026, before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.

The claimants are seeking to recover the disputed $2.1 million, alongside damages and other reliefs. The court has scheduled further proceedings for December 1, 2 and 14, 2026.

Counsel to the petitioners, Ibrahim Waru, said the EFCC petition was intended to address the alleged criminal aspects of the transaction, which are separate from the civil claims before the court.

The petitioners have also reportedly urged the commission to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if evidence establishes criminal liability. Recent media reports indicate that their lawyer said the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition but had yet to provide a meaningful update on its status.

The petition places the proposed land transaction under scrutiny as the civil proceedings continue.

As of the latest reports, the civil suit remains pending, while the petitioners are seeking further action from the anti-graft agency.
