Eight years after he was first charged to court, former Plateau Governor and sitting Plateau West Senator, Chief Joshua Dariye, has been sentenced to 14 years in jail by an Abuja High Court judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko.
He was found guilty of diverting N1.162 billion state ecological funds . He was convicted on 15 of the 23 charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He got two years for criminal breach of trust and 14 years for criminal misappropriation of funds, but the sentences run concurrently.
Sadly for Dariye and his well-wishers, he was not given an option of fine in the judgment that was read for hours.
