From Ogun to Delta States, it was classical, spousal horror dramas that played out as a man killed his serially abused wife, Ganiyat, who was concluding plans to separate herself from him.
Ayoola Ayanwale subsequently drank a poisonous substance to kill himself.
The mother of three, according to reports from the Ogun State end of Ojodu-Berger was stabbed multiple times and rushed to a hospital in Olowora, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Ganiyat’s brother, Murtala Sogbade, gave a picture of troubled marriage marked by years of abuse, disclosing that his brother-in-law was a violent man, notorious for taking hard drugs. They were married for 14 years.
He disclosed that the intervention of families on both sides did nothing to change the situation until late last year, when Ayanwale sought for a divorce.
Ganiyat began making plans for a separate life when her husband allegedly snapped for unstated reasons and allegedly stabbed her multiple times.
The Ogun State Police says the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the bodies have been deposited in the mortuary as investigations continue.
Another woman matcheted her husband to death before going after his female friend in the neighbourhood with a hammer and killed her. There was also a collateral damage done to a peacemaker who got slashed in the jaw.
The yet-to-be identified housewife, native of Isoko in Ighwre-Ovie area of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State is being held at the Ughelli Area Command.
The mother of two, according to a Vanguard newspaper report, killed her husband because of his extramarital affairs with another woman.
The source said, “The woman has been accusing her husband of having extra marital affairs with another unidentified woman that she killed the same day.
“Having become fed up with her husband’s infidelity, on that fateful day the husband came back home drunk and on entering the house, the wife welcomed him by dealing multiple matchete cuts to his skull from which he died instantly.
“Not satisfied, a female neighbour who tried to intervene by stopping her, got what she didn’t expect as her jaw was slit with matchete and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
“Again, she went to her husband’s side chick’s house, and on entering her house that is within the same area, she used a hammer to burst her skull.
“A woman who heard the noise from her neighbour’s house narrowly escaped being attacked in the process before raising an alarm that attracted people which led to the suspect’s arrest,” the source added.
