Tinubu appoints new service chiefs, reshuffles military leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved significant changes in the leadership structure of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in what the Presidency describes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

According to a statement issued by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa.

The President also named Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff.

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue in his role as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “dedicated service and patriotic leadership,” commending their contributions to national security and stability. He urged the newly appointed military leaders to demonstrate “the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and unity” in discharging their duties.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.

The changes mark a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military hierarchy as the Tinubu administration intensifies efforts to address security challenges across the country.
