The All Progressives Congress (APC) and former President Goodluck Jonathan have congratulated former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on the occasion of his 81st birthday.

The APC party joined family, friends, well-wishers and associates in celebrating the retired general who, it says, has emerged as a bastion of democracy, good governance and development in Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, the party added that Chief Obasanjo has inspired a generation of Nigerians notably in the area of entrepreneurship, leadership and education, especially through his non-profit initiatives, the Africa Leadership Forum (ALF) and the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

“His legacy as President has continued to inspire good governance on the continent even after so many years and he remains an influential voice in different facets of our national life. As a true Nigerian patriot and statesman, Chief Obasanjo has over the years built solid bridges across political divides in the country, on the African continent and the world at large.

“Our prayer is that Chief Obasanjo continues to age in health and wisdom as he contributes to the unending task of nation building,” the APC said.

Ex-President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, through his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, described Obasanjo as a man of great
achievements.
In a goodwill message to Chief Obasanjo, ex-President Jonathan wrote:
“Your Excellency, I write to most sincerely congratulate you on your 81st birthday. On this very special anniversary, I join you, your
family and other well-wishers to give thanks to Almighty God for a life of great achievements and inspiring service to humanity.
“Your exemplary patriotism and deep commitment to the development and
unity of our dear nation is evident in your enduring legacies, having served Nigeria as a courageous soldier, Head of State and president.
“I wish you good health and more productive years so that our great country will continue to benefit from your wisdom and wealth of experience.”
