The “Baruch Syndrome” – LIVING SELFISHLY

Must read

By Sam Kputu

The Adamic nature we inherited at birth is self- centred, seeking good just for itself, and often at the expense of others. A time comes when such living is detrimental to ourselves and our communities.

In the days of Jeremiah, God’s people were under immense hardship as a result of their rebellion and idolatory. Baruch, his scribe, was so engrossed with his own challenges, forgetting the rest of the people. The Lord cautioned him, “Do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them” (Jer. 45:5)

In times like these, living selfishly is not Christ-like. Mordecai warned Esther not think that because she was in the king’s house she will escape the Jew’s fate” (Esther 4:13)

As believers, we are not to be selfish, but consider the needs of others. That is the essence of true Christian Fellowship (Acts 2:44; Phi.2:4)

At the center of sIn is “I”. Let Christ replace that with Himself, so we may love and care as He does.
