The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a married woman and two workers of a guest house in connection with the death of a man whose body was found dumped under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway, Abuja.
The arrests followed an investigation into the discovery of the man’s lifeless body on August 26, 2026, after his family had earlier reported him missing.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed the development on Saturday while briefing journalists in Abuja.
According to Sanusi, the discovery of the body had initially generated speculation that the deceased might have been a victim of kidnapping or “one chance” robbery. Investigators, however, subsequently established that the body belonged to the man whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
Sanusi said a major breakthrough came after investigators discovered that the deceased’s mobile phone was missing. Although the phone had been switched off, detectives were able to establish the last person with whom the deceased had communicated.
The investigation led police to Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, whom the police said was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased. Sanusi said the woman had saved the deceased’s contact on her phone under the name “Safiyat.”
Further investigation, according to the commissioner, showed that Muhammed and the deceased had lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House, Second Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they spent some time together.
Sanusi said Muhammed told investigators that she discovered the man was no longer breathing and had died.
Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the police, the commissioner alleged that she took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the guest house.
“Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the Police, the suspect took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel,” Sanusi said.
Several hours later, according to the police, hotel management was unable to establish contact with the occupants of the room. Access was eventually gained to the room, where the man’s body was discovered.
Sanusi said that instead of reporting the discovery to the police, two members of the hotel management — Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus — allegedly removed the body from the room.
The two workers allegedly transported the body to the Kubwa Expressway near the Katampe under-bridge and abandoned it by the roadside.
The commissioner said the action was apparently intended to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.
The police subsequently arrested Muhammed, Omeiza and Bitrus in connection with the case.
However, the FCT Police Command has stressed that the arrest of the three suspects does not mean the circumstances or cause of the man’s death have been established.
Sanusi said investigations were still ongoing to determine exactly how the man died and whether anyone played a role in his death.
“Let me make it clear that investigations are still ongoing. The exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death are still under investigation,” the commissioner said.
He added that further investigative processes were being pursued to establish the full facts of the case.
“Anyone found to have played a role in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body will be made to face the law,” Sanusi said.
The commissioner also warned members of the public against concealing information, obstructing investigations or otherwise frustrating law-enforcement efforts.
The case has consequently shifted from the initial mystery surrounding a body found beneath a major Abuja bridge to an investigation involving a Gwarimpa guest house, a missing mobile phone, a woman allegedly linked romantically to the deceased and two hotel workers accused of moving and abandoning the body.
Police have not publicly disclosed the identity of the deceased or released a definitive account of what caused his death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
