Logjam on Abuja-Keffi road as military checkpoint resurfaces

Must read

By Yemi Oyeyemi, Abuja.

Thousands of civil servants and artisans are currently stranded on the ever busy Abuja-Keffi road as operatives of the Nigerian Army mounted a checkpoint against commercial and private vehicles.

Workers, who left their homes as early as 5 a.m for their respective working places, are trapped inside their vehicles as at 10;20 a.m when  our reporter visited the scene of the snarl in traffic.

Our correspondent observed that the chaotic situation has forced several people to abandon their vehicles to trek several kilometers in order to meet up with appointments.

It was noted that the road was blocked at the Kugbo Mechanic Village section of the Abuja axis.

No reason has yet been offered for the return of the military checkpoints, suspended for about two years ago.

Most of the commercial drivers who spoke with our correspondent lamented the sudden return of the military on the road and pleaded with government to look into their plights.

At the time of this report, the long queues of vehicles which started at Kugbo Mechanic Village has reached Masaka in Nasarawa State.

Expectedly, commercial motorcycle riders have been making brisk business charging as much as N1000 to convey passengers to Kugbo.
