The family of former Minister of Power and Oyo State governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, has confirmed the abduction of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, by armed gunmen in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while Mrs. John-Paul was driving her children to school. The attackers reportedly intercepted the family and forcefully whisked them away, triggering widespread concern among residents and political stakeholders in the state.
Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is said to be the youngest of five children in the Adelabu family. Before relocating to Ibadan, she worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and later at First Bank Pension Custodian. She voluntarily retired from service in 2025 and had been making plans to reunite with her husband in the United States.
The family disclosed that security and law enforcement agencies were immediately alerted following the abduction and that investigations are already underway. They expressed confidence in the efforts of security operatives to secure the safe release of the victims and bring those responsible to justice.
In its appeal to the public, the Adelabu family urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information that could compromise ongoing rescue efforts. The family also called for prayers and requested that anyone with useful information should report it through the appropriate security channels.
The latest incident has further heightened concerns about the growing wave of kidnappings in Oyo State. In recent months, several abduction cases have been reported in and around Ibadan, including the kidnapping of a 12-year-old schoolgirl in the Challenge area and other high-profile abductions that have intensified calls for stronger security measures across the state.
Authorities have yet to provide detailed information about the circumstances of the attack or the whereabouts of the victims. However, security agencies are said to be actively pursuing leads as efforts continue to ensure their safe rescue.
COMPLIMENTS.
