Military Arrests Notorious Bandit ‘Sule Yellow’ Who Flaunted Kidnap Proceeds on TikTok After Ransom Pickup

Must read

Security operatives have arrested a suspected bandit identified as Sule Yellow, who allegedly used the TikTok handle @suleyellow6 to promote banditry activities and flaunt suspected ransom proceeds online.

Security sources said the suspect was arrested shortly after he reportedly collected ransom money from the family of a kidnapped victim, following intelligence gathered by security operatives who had been monitoring his online activities.

Before his arrest, Sule Yellow was said to be highly active on TikTok, where he frequently posted videos displaying firearms, large sums of money, and alleged bandit operations in parts of northern Nigeria.

According to reports, the suspect appeared in a TikTok livestream on March 4 alongside another suspected bandit identified as Auta and several other armed associates. The livestream reportedly attracted attention from security agencies and members of the public, further exposing his activities online.

Investigators said his consistent online presence and videos boasting about criminal activities helped security operatives track his movements and network of associates.

Following his arrest, authorities disabled the TikTok account linked to the suspect  as part of efforts to stop the use of social media platforms to glorify violent crimes.

Security analysts say the case highlights a growing trend where criminal groups use social media platforms to publicize their activities, intimidate communities, and flaunt wealth obtained through kidnapping and extortion.

In some instances, suspected bandits have posted videos showing weapons, cash, or armed convoys moving through rural areas, sometimes issuing threats to communities or rival groups.

The phenomenon has raised concerns among security agencies and the public about how violent criminal groups exploit digital platforms for propaganda and recruitment.

For example, authorities previously tracked suspects who posted videos showing weapons and large sums of cash believed to be linked to violent crimes, leading to arrests during intelligence-driven operations.

Banditry and mass kidnapping have become major security challenges in parts of northwestern Nigeria, particularly in states such as Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna.

Armed groups operating in forested areas often carry out:
Kidnappings for ransom
Cattle rustling
Attacks on rural communities
Highway ambushes

These groups sometimes establish camps in remote forests and use motorcycles for quick raids across villages.

Military operations in the region have intensified in recent years, targeting bandit camps and key leaders. In one recent operation, troops neutralised a notorious bandit commander who had also appeared in TikTok videos boasting about his activities, highlighting how some criminal figures have begun using social media as a tool for influence and intimidation.

Authorities say Sule Yellow remains in custody while investigations continue. Security operatives are reportedly working to identify other members of the gang and individuals who appeared in the suspect’s online videos.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to tracking criminals who use social media platforms to promote or facilitate violent crimes, warning that digital footprints can provide valuable intelligence for security operations.
