Governor Adeleke shakes up Osun politics as he signals possible exit from 2026 PDP race

Must read

Osun politics took an unexpected—and electrifying—turn on Monday as signals emerged that Governor Ademola Adeleke may step back from seeking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2026 governorship election.

The revelation came from Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, during a lively press briefing in Osogbo, where he addressed the growing tension around the party’s primaries initially scheduled for December 2, 2025.

According to Bisi, Governor Adeleke—long considered the uncontested frontrunner—remains the only aspirant to have purchased, submitted, and been fully cleared for the race. But a storm at the PDP national headquarters has thrown the party’s timetable into disarray.
The suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers responsible for coordinating congresses and transmitting candidate names to INEC, he said, created “crippling uncertainties” that stalled essential pre-primary processes.

With statutory ward and local government congresses failing to hold on November 24 and 29, the party was unable to elect delegates—effectively freezing the primaries. Many of the issues fueling the turmoil are now tied up in court battles across the country.

“In light of these developments, the PDP governorship primaries scheduled for December 2 can no longer hold,” Bisi announced, emphasizing that the disruptions stem from the national crisis rather than the Osun chapter.

The real bombshell came moments later: Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s nomination if the crisis persists without a resolution recognized by INEC within the electoral body’s timeline.
Still, Bisi struck an optimistic tone, assuring party faithful and Osun residents that intense efforts are underway at both state and national levels to restore order.

He reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to transparency and pledged frequent updates as the situation evolves.

Despite the turbulence, the energy surrounding Osun’s political landscape has surged, as party loyalists and observers alike watch closely to see whether the beloved “Dancing Governor” will re-enter the ring—or chart a new political course altogether.

One thing is certain: the road to Osun 2026 just got a lot more interesting.
