The Federal Government has reduced the cost of kidney dialysis in federal tertiary hospitals from N50,000 to N12,000 per session, affirming that the North-West region is fully included in the subsidy programme.
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said the initiative aims to save lives, reduce financial strain on vulnerable Nigerians, and advance universal health coverage under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Implementation has already begun in 11 federal tertiary hospitals across the country, with plans for further expansion. The facilities currently offering subsidised dialysis include:

University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital
University of Jos Teaching Hospital
National Hospital, Abuja
Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta
University College Hospital, Ibadan
University of Benin Teaching Hospital
Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa
Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri
Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki
The ministry, through a statement signed by Deputy Director and Head of Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, reiterated that the subsidy applies nationwide, ensuring equitable access to dialysis treatment for all Nigerians.
“This intervention is a deliberate effort by the current administration to support patients with kidney-related conditions and improve access to critical healthcare services,” the ministry stated.
