Mr Dele Farotimi, the lawyer who has been at the centre of a criminal defamation trial in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, at the instance of Chief Afe Babalola SAN, has been released on bail from prison and will now spend Christmas and the New Year at home.
The cheery news for his family, friends, and fans was made public by the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, via his X handle.
It is a day of double victory as the Lagos lawyer has just also ‘won’ another victory in Abuja, where the Legal Practitioners and Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) said it had no jurisdiction in a petition filed by Emmanuel Chambers of Babalola, seeking to have him debarred as a lawyer.
Farotimi has been held in Ekiti prison for alleged criminal defamation of Chief Afe Babalola in a book, Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System.
Wrote Sowore on his release: “I am pleased to report that @DeleFarotimi Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!
“Happy holidays to you all!”
