Seven days after a customer test-driving a Mercedes Benz GLB 250 worth N55m, disappeared with it, the car has been found nearly 600 kilometers away in Ughelli, Delta State by the Police.
But the customer is nowhere to be found, but a manhunt for him is in progress, the Police has said.
Recall that a car dealer in Abuja, Mohammed Manga, had reported that he was scammed by the shifty customer, simply identified as Henry, who bolted away with the car while test-driving it.
Mohammed said one of his friends who is also a car dealer took the Mercedes Benz to the prospective buyer for sale but he zoomed off taking it on a test-drive.
Manga, however, told newsmen the good news of the recovery.“It, (the car) has been found today in Delta State. The car is with the police. It is the Commissioner of Police, Asaba, and his team that made the recovery. They are on the search for the suspect.”
On his part, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Wale Abbas, told journalists in Asaba, “Sequel to a complaint received on July 3, 2023, around 5pm from a car dealer in Abuja whose vehicle was stolen from his car stand by the suspect who disguised as intending buyer and absconded with the said vehicle during a test drive on June 30, 2023, in Abuja.
“Armed with available intelligence, operatives of the CP-Decoy Squad stormed Ughelli town around 1.15am on 3 July, and recovered the said Mercedes Benz SUV abandoned in a bush along Oteri road by Doctors Quarters, Ughelli North LGA. Serious manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.”
