“The problem with you people is that you pray too much”. That was one man’s explanation of the seeming stagnation and retrogression in Africa. Ever heard or made similar arguments?
Those who think or speak like that neither understand nor appreciate the essence of prayer. Real praying is not averse or antithetical to productivity; on the contrary, it is the basis and motivation for hard work. In prayer, God gives grace, direction and instructions as to how we will labour fruitfully. For apart from Him, we can do nothing (of eternal value).
Prayer then is not an escape from responsibility and reality but an entry into God’s will and responsibility for our lives, as believers. Low productivity therefore is not a result of too much prayer but of too little praying.
