A pro-Buhari group has put in black and white what has remained a whisper in the last few hours: APC National Chairman, Abdulahi Adamu, must go
Mr. Ahmed Bashir of the Buhari Support Group says his group has been vindicated by the position of President Muhammadu Buhari that he has not endorsed any consensus candidate for the position of Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group said the purported adoption of a consensus candidate by the party chairman, Senator Abdulahi Adamu, using the name of President Buhari, has not only caused Mr. President a national disgrace but also international embarrassment.
From Ondo State, where he is still grieving over the loss of over 50 Christian citizens in a callous shooting by men said to be Fulani, the Governor and Chairman of Southern Governors Forum has frowned at the alleged pronouncement of the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, as the consensus presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
The governor in a statement personally issued by him said such endorsement is nothing be a joke.
According to him, the expensive joke was purportedly enacted by the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
He added that speculation is rife that the Chairman took a flight of fancy and decided to make a pronouncement beyond his competence.
He added “He has, allegedly, made public his preferred choice as the candidate of the APC for the Office of the President in the next general elections.
“This alleged pronouncement runs contrary to the position of majority of Northern Governors in APC and their counterparts in the South. Our agreement is unanimous on this issue.
“The office of the President should be contested for by qualified persons from the Southern part of the country if the move to get a consensus candidate fails. There has been no shift from this settled issue.
“Let t it be known that the Chairman or anyone who holds a contrary opinion does so at a personal level. He is at best embarking on a frolic which reasonable people will consider dangerous.
“We are grieving but have not forgotten that power must shift to the south. On this we stand”.
The Buhari Support Group noted that It was commendable that Buhari has instantly disassociated himself from the “sham consensus candidate announced by Senator Adamu, which has caused serious disagreement in the party’s National Working Committee.”
The group adds, “In view of the above, it is our position that Senator Abdulahi Adamu should step down forthwith as the Chairman of the party as he is no longer seen as an unbiased umpire and therefore unable to conduct, coordinate, supervise and oversee the presidential primary election, for which he has announced a fake result even before the commencement of accreditation.
“We call on the members of the National Working Committee to rise up to the occasion and save our party from implosion, by suspending Senator Adamu till after the convention, if he fails to immediately recluse himself from conducting the presidential primary election.”
