From Chuks Moses, Awka

Senator Andy Uba has reiterated his decision to challenge the outcome of the recently concluded Anambra State Governorship election held on November 6, 2021 at the tribunal.

Uba who ran as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election, said at a stakeholders brainstorming session at Marble Arch Hotel in Awka, that preliminary checks by his camp showed that he has grounds to challenge the declaration of Prof Charles Soludo as winner, at the elections tribunal in line with the electoral process.

He appealed to his supporters and party members to eschew any form of blame-game or finger-pointing, but rather to remain focussed, noting that often “at times like this, there is always the tendency to resort to finger-pointing and self-blame regarding who did what or who did not do to ensure a successful outcome for our gubernatorial quest, but I’d like to say here and now that, that should not be the topic.

He added, “There is, perhaps, the more urgent need to focus on the goals of a better Anambra, which was the basis of this aspiration in the first place.”

“Now that INEC has declared the result and announced the APGA candidate, Professor Charles Soludo, as winner, I urge that we remain law-abiding. Having met with my team, party hierarchy, etc and analyzed data from our field officers, we can boldly state that preliminary checks show that we have grounds to challenge INEC declaration at the tribunal in line with the electoral process.”

Soludo, according to INEC won with 112,229 valid votes; Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, came Second with 53,807 votes, while Uba (APC) polled 43,285 votes, and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party polled 21,261 votes.

Soludo won 19 Councils, Ozigbo and Ubah of YPP won one council area each. The APC candidate, however, did not win any council area.

Whereas the PDP and YPP candidates have since congratulated Soludo, the APC candidate has not. In fact, the APC has rejected the outcome of the poll. He had also served notice of his intention to challenge Soludo up to the Supreme Court
