After waiting nearly a month to be evacuated back home, Nigerians stuck in India have been safely delivered home.
Recall that Nigeria Everyday had exclusively reported the plight of the agitated Nigerians amid their frustrations and anger.
In the past two weeks, the social media as well as the mainstream media were expressing concerns over the plight of the over two hundred Nigerians who have been waiting to be evacuated from India to Nigeria since May 17.
Emotions ran high and many of the evacuees were deeply worried especially because some of them were just recovering from medical treatment in Indian hospitals and needed to be home for full recuperation.
However after weeks of waiting and animated frustrations, relief came on Friday June 12 when the Air Peace Boeing 777 landed in Delhi and airlifted 261 Nigerians to Abuja and Lagos via Bangalore.
The flight landed in Abuja in the early hours of June 13 for some passengers to disembark before proceeding to Lagos to drop off the remaining passengers.
A source involved in the agitations in India said: “It would be worthwhile to express appreciation to all those who directly and indirectly facilitated the realization of this project – the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, the PTF on COVID – 19, the Nigeria High Commission, Delhi, the mainstream and social media, as well as many well wishers. God bless you all. God bless Nigeria!”
