The Police high command has also appealed to residents of the town to remain calm.
A statement on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi reads: “Members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, are implored to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality.”
In a statement, the assemblyman representing the Esan West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, which houses Ekpoma town, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, noted that the incident was not a case of break failure or a mechanical fault, but a premeditated action which lends credence to impunity.
Though investigations are on Ibhamawu condemned the ugly development “which casts aspersions on Ekpoma, and depicts Nigeria as a lawless and barbaric country even in the 21st century.”
He thanked God for sparing the life of the victim, and wished him speedy recovery; thanking the youths present at the scene for being able to put themselves together to curtail the situation from getting out of hand.
He urged the law enforcement agencies to carry out a full-scale investigation into the matter, and do the needful to forestall future reoccurrence of such dastardly acts.
