The Chief Judge of the Abuja High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello, has given a breather to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, ruling that he cannot be arrested or detained by the Police, Department of State Services until further notice.

Omo-Agege, representing Delta Central, the son of former Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice James Omo-Agege, went to the court for an interim injunction against his further arrest or detention.

He was arrested and released by the Police on Wednesday after answering some questions.

But on Thursday, his prayers were granted by the Chief Judge of the Abuja High Court.

His reprieve came as the social media was agog with the history of Omo-Agege as a former aide to former Delta Governor, James Ibori. He was also a former commissioner and Secretary to the State.

However, the most striking were those regarding his father’s comments while sentencing notorious armed robber, Lawrence Anini, to death.

It reads: “In 1986, Justice James Omo-Agege of Bendel State Armed Robbery and Firearm Tribunal sentenced Lawrence Anini and his gang to death for armed robbery.

“32 years later today, his son, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, with his gang, in a daylight operation stormed the hallow chamber of the Nigerian Senate and stole the Mace.

“What an irony?

“In passing his judgement, Justice Omo-Agege remarked, “Anini will forever be remembered in the history of crime in this country, but it would be of unblessed memory. Few people, if ever, would give the name to their children.”

“Their execution took place on March 29, 1987.

“He was the Delta State Chief Judge between October 3rd 1993 and 4th November 1998. What an irony”
