Eyewitnesses said the officers arrived in four vehicles before taking the two men away.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), condemned the arrest, describing it as a case of “substituted arrest,” which he argued has no legal basis under Nigerian law. Falana stated that Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi had already undertaken to appear in court, questioning why his father was instead taken into custody. He added that the incident left Adeniyi’s elderly mother traumatised.

Police Clarify Investigation

The Oyo State Police Command has distanced itself from the operation, explaining that the investigation is being handled by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja because it is considered a matter of national interest. The command directed all enquiries on the case to the Force Headquarters.

Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi is facing allegations linked to the creation and operation of a purported presidential council. According to the Presidency, he and two others were charged before the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025 on counts including conspiracy, forgery and impersonation. The Presidency has maintained that the council was fictitious and has urged the public to allow the court process to determine the allegations.

The reported arrest of Adeniyi’s father has rekindled debate over due process, with lawyers expected to scrutinise whether the action complies with constitutional safeguards against arbitrary arrest. As of Tuesday, there had been no official statement from the Nigeria Police Force specifically confirming the circumstances of the father’s arrest beyond the clarification that the investigation falls under the FCID.

The matter remains under investigation, while the criminal proceedings against Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi are expected to continue before the Federal High Court.

The controversy surrounding the alleged fake Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC) has intensified following the reported arrest of the father of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi by police operatives in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
