Witnesses said the atmosphere had been festive as Governor Adeleke arrived at the venue and mounted the stage with members of his entourage, including senior government officials and campaign figures.<\/p>\n
Trouble, however, started shortly after the governor rose to acknowledge cheering supporters. As several dignitaries and aides also stood up to wave at the crowd, the platform reportedly began to shake before collapsing under the weight of those on it.<\/p>\n
The sudden collapse threw occupants of the stage into confusion, prompting security operatives and supporters to rush to the scene. For several minutes, anxiety spread through the gathering as many feared the governor and other dignitaries might have sustained serious injuries.<\/p>\n
Security personnel quickly formed a protective cordon around the governor and assisted him away from the damaged structure. The incident brought the programme to an abrupt halt as organisers deemed it unsafe to continue.<\/p>\n
Despite the scare, government sources and political associates later confirmed that Governor Adeleke was safe and did not suffer any injury. Federal lawmaker Bamidele Salam also reassured supporters after the incident, indicating that the governor and other officials were in good condition following the collapse.<\/p>\n
The inauguration was intended to formally launch a network of 10,000 grassroots canvassers expected to campaign for Adeleke’s re-election across Osun East Senatorial District ahead of the state’s governorship poll. The mobilisation programme had been announced days earlier by Olajengbesi as a major grassroots strategy for the governor’s second-term bid.<\/p>\n
Although no official casualty figure was immediately released, some participants were reported to have sustained minor injuries during the incident. Authorities had yet to issue a detailed statement on the cause of the collapse as of press time.<\/p>\n
The development has renewed concerns about safety standards at political gatherings, particularly the structural integrity of temporary stages used during campaign events where large numbers of officials, aides, security personnel and supporters often converge.<\/p>\n
