According to her, the captors are demanding the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, as well as the return of livestock they claim was confiscated from them.

She said two of the men whose freedom is being sought were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was apprehended in Kano.

With an emotional appeal, she called on the Katsina State Government and leaders across five local government areas to intervene and help facilitate compliance with the demands, expressing hope that such efforts would bring an end to their ordeal.

When his turn came to speak, General Abubakar, a former military spokesman who once served as a public voice of Nigeria’s armed forces, delivered a brief message centred on peace. He said the abductors had indicated a willingness to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence, urging efforts that could lead to a resolution of the crisis.
Notably, throughout the video, no ransom demand was mentioned.

As of press time, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official response to the video or the demands contained in it.

The retired general, and his wife , were abducted last Saturday while travelling to Katsina. Their journey was violently interrupted along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area.

Witnesses said the attack occurred near Zakin Baure village when armed men, believed to be bandits, emerged suddenly from hiding, blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to stop.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the driver sustained a gunshot wound to the hand during the ambush but was ultimately spared by the attackers.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that notorious bandit leader Kachallah Muhammad has established contact with members of the victims’ family. Sources said the feared kingpin, who operates across parts of Katsina State, opened communication channels with relatives of the retired general on Monday morning, raising hopes that negotiations could eventually lead to the safe return of the abductees.

For now, however, the fate of General Abubakar and his wife remains uncertain, as family members, friends and well-wishers await a breakthrough that could bring the couple home after a week in captivity.

A week after they were abducted on a lonely stretch of road in Katsina State, former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd), and his wife have appeared in a distressing video from captivity, appealing to authorities and community leaders to secure their freedom.
