The temporary fare slash, approved through the Federal Ministry of Transportation, will run from Tuesday, May 26, to Monday, June 1, 2026, to cushion transportation costs during the Sallah rush.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry\u2019s Permanent Secretary, Engr. Funsho Adebiyi, said the intervention reflects the government\u2019s commitment to making transportation more affordable and accessible, especially during periods of increased travel demand. He explained that all existing train routes nationwide would operate at half their approved fares throughout the period, while passengers who purchased tickets before the announcement would receive a 50 per cent rebate redeemable for future trips before June 1.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fare reduction, train schedules and timetables are expected to remain unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>The transport relief comes alongside the declaration of Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year\u2019s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing the holidays in Abuja, the Minister of Interior,\u00a0Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described Eid-ul-Adha as a deeply significant Islamic festival symbolising sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and devotion to humanity. In a statement signed by the ministry\u2019s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the government urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and national development.<\/p>\n<p>Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God before divine intervention provided a ram in his place.
