They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people,” Alanga said.

Another resident, Mr. Chigoji Rocku, disclosed that three pregnant women were among those killed during the attack.

Security sources quoted in fresh reports said troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) responded to distress calls after gunshots were heard around 12:15 a.m., but the attackers had fled before security operatives arrived. Troops later discovered multiple corpses bearing gunshot and machete wounds while conducting search operations around the community.

The Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Mr. Danjuma Auta, condemned the killings, describing the attack as tragic, barbaric, and inhuman. He lamented the recurring attacks on communities in Bassa and other parts of Plateau State and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable rural communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Human rights organisation Amnesty International also reacted to the latest killings, accusing the Federal Government of failing to curb persistent violence in Plateau State. Amnesty said several survivors, including women and children, were receiving treatment for gunshot wounds and condemned what it described as “widespread insecurity” in the state.

The latest incident adds to a growing wave of violence across Plateau State in recent weeks, particularly in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu, and Bokkos Local Government Areas.

Recall that assailants had earlier attacked the Nding Susut community in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Tuesday night, leaving five persons dead and three others injured.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community at about 8 p.m. and opened fire on people who were seated outside their homes.

A community member, Weng Christopher, told Channels Television that the gunmen attacked members of a family seated in their compound, triggering panic in the area.

According to him, one of the victims initially escaped but was later pursued and killed by the assailants.

“This is becoming too frequent. People are living in constant fear. We can no longer sleep peacefully because these attacks keep happening,” Christopher said.

The Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, also condemned the killings, describing the repeated attacks as deeply disturbing.

Meanwhile, fresh developments have emerged in the ongoing trial linked to the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area.

The Plateau State High Court 9 sitting in Jos has adjourned proceedings to May 26, 2026, for ruling on the case management hearing involving suspects charged in connection with the March 29, 2026 attack.

Justice Dafur Fomyil ordered that the suspects remain in DSS custody and also granted an accelerated hearing of the matter. Hearing dates have reportedly been fixed for July 1 and July 2, 2026.

The suspects are facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and terrorism after allegedly participating in the Angwan Rukuba violence which claimed dozens of lives.

At the resumed sitting, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Philemon Daffi, informed the court that the prosecution had filed its case management processes on April 26 and adopted same before the court.

Counsel to the defendants also confirmed filing and adopting their various processes in compliance with court rules before Justice Fomyil adjourned the matter to May 26 for ruling.

The court proceedings come amid heightened security concerns in Jos North. Earlier this month, Plateau State Police Command announced the arrest of nine suspects allegedly planning another retaliatory attack in Angwan Rukuba. Police said the suspects, believed to be linked to the Sara Suka gang, were apprehended with weapons while allegedly plotting revenge attacks connected to the March violence.

By Yusuf Danladi Fresh violence has again rocked Plateau State as suspected gunmen reportedly killed at least 13 persons in a midnight attack on Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area.
