The document serves as a formal <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>reference tool<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> to notify the public and financial institutions of updated sanctions designations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">OFAC\u2019s publication named the following Nigerians, citing alleged links to extremist groups and cyber-related offences: <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Salih Yusuf Adamu<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aka <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Salihu Yusuf<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">): linked to fundraising for <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Boko Haram<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">; previously among Nigerians convicted in the United Arab Emirates for attempting to move funds to support the group. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Babestan Oluwole Ademulero<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aliases include Wole A. Babestan, Olatunde Irewole Shofeso): sanctioned under terrorism-related provisions. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Abu Abdullah ibn Umar Al-Barnawi<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aka <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Ba Idrisa<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">): designated for terrorist affiliation. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Abu Musab Al-Barnawi<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aka <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Habib Yusuf<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">): identified as a Boko Haram leader. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Khaled\/Khalid Al-Barnawi<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aliases including <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Abu Hafsat<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Mohammed Usman<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">): linked to Boko Haram activities. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Ibrahim Ali Alhassan<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">: reportedly resident in the UAE and tied to Boko Haram. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Abu Bakr ibn Muhammad Al-Mainuki<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> (aka <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">): identified as having links to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><i>Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>\u2022 Nnamdi Orson Benson<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">: designated under cybercrime-related sanctions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Under the sanctions, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>all U.S.-based assets and interests of these individuals are blocked<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The sanctions were announced amid U.S. concerns about <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>terrorism financing and cyber threats<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">. Boko Haram has long been officially designated by the U.S. as a \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>foreign terrorist organization<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">,\u201d a status first applied in 2013.
