The result of the election held on Saturday, 8 November 2025, was officially announced on Sunday, 9 November by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer, Professor Edoba Omoregie. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Soludo polled <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>422,664 votes<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">, far ahead of his nearest rival. His closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>99,445 votes<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the re-election of Soludo of Anambra State for a second term as a testament to his visionary leadership and the remarkable progress the state has made under his guidance. While congratulating Governor Soludo, the President assured him of the Federal Government\u2019s unwavering support and expressed optimism about continued collaboration between Anambra and the federal administration for the good of the people<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Third place went to Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) with <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>37,753 votes<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The total number of registered voters in the state was 2,788,864. Accredited voters: 598,229. Total votes cast: 595,298, of which 584,054 were valid, and 11,244 rejected. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Notably, Soludo won in <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>all 21 local government areas (LGAs)<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> of Anambra State \u2014 a clean sweep. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">According to INEC, incidents in some wards in Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South LGAs led to cancellation of about 10,481 votes. However, this number did not affect the outcome because Soludo\u2019s margin was significantly higher. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The scale of the win underscores APGA\u2019s entrenched position in Anambra politics and the confidence of the electorate in Soludo\u2019s first term (2021-2025). By sweeping every LGA, Soludo sends a strong signal of broad-based support across urban, semi-urban and rural areas of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">For the opposition, the result is a major setback. Despite contesting from APC, YPP and other smaller parties, no challenger came close to denting Soludo\u2019s dominance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In April 2025, Soludo secured his party\u2019s nomination unopposed \u2014 he was the only aspirant and received overwhelming support from delegates across all 21 LGAs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In March earlier this year, he had publicly expressed confidence that he would be re-elected, stating he hadn\u2019t seen a worthy challenger. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">His campaign was buoyed by endorsement events where various ethnic groups in Anambra publicly backed his re-election bid, reflecting his outreach beyond native political constituencies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\"><b>Conduct of election<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Observers noted that voting across Anambra was largely peaceful, with early turn-out especially in major urban centres such as Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi. The use of BVAS (biometric voter accreditation and smart card readers) was reportedly effective and polling units opened as scheduled. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">With a fresh mandate secured until 2029, Soludo can now begin his second term with fewer political distractions and stronger legitimacy. Key questions now include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">How he will translate the electoral victory into policy delivery \u2014 particularly in infrastructure, education, health and economic revival.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The 2025 governorship election in Anambra marks a decisive affirmation of the incumbent\u2019s mandate. With all 21 LGAs delivering for Soludo, the political terrain in the state remains evidently tilted in favour of APGA. For voters, the verdict gives them a clear signal of expectations: the re-elected governor must deliver on promises and uphold the confidence placed in him.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_251109_181109_914.sdocx--><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"1049\">Meanwhile President Tinubu noted that the victory of the opposition All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA) in the election once again demonstrated the vitality of Nigeria\u2019s political system, emphasizing that victory for any progressive and hardworking leader cannot be easily denied. In a statement he personally signed, the President commended Soludo\u2019s intellectual approach to governance, describing him as a leader who has shown that knowledge is indeed power and that academic principles can effectively serve the people through accountability, transparency, and prudent management.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1439\">The President further observed that Governor Soludo\u2019s overwhelming victory at the polls has made him the third governor in Anambra State\u2019s political history to secure a second term in office. He extended congratulations to the people of Anambra State, the security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for ensuring a peaceful and credible election process.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1850\">Recalling his visit to Anambra in May, President Tinubu said he had inaugurated several projects executed by the Soludo administration and was deeply impressed by the thoughtfulness and innovation behind them. He praised Soludo for bringing discipline, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance, adding that under his leadership, Anambra is truly living up to its motto as the \u201cLight of the Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1852\" data-end=\"2314\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">President Tinubu urged Governor Soludo to be magnanimous in victory and to seek the cooperation of his opponents for the continued progress of the state. He also commended the new INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and his team for conducting what observers described as a credible election.
