The battle for the soul of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Thursday as Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, reaffirmed his earlier order halting any action towards the party\u2019s 2025 National Convention.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a firm warning from the bench, Justice Omotosho declared that the court’s directive to maintain the <\/span>status quo<\/b><\/span> stands \u2014 and <\/span>any party daring to flout the order risks severe legal consequences<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe court must not be overreached,\u201d the judge warned, adding, \u201cany steps taken in defiance will be met with consequential orders that could nullify such actions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The warning followed a complaint from PDP counsel, <\/span>Chris Uche, SAN<\/b><\/span>, who lamented that the interim order had effectively tied the hands of the party, urging the court to accelerate the case.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Justice Omotosho wasn\u2019t having any of it \u2014 he promised <\/span>a swift resolution<\/b><\/span>, pledging that judgment would be delivered <\/span>before the end of October<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI type my judgments myself,\u201d he assured the courtroom, \u201cso there will be no delays.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

PDP Lawyers Clash in Courtroom<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Adding to the legal drama, the PDP had <\/span>two Senior Advocates<\/b><\/span> \u2014 <\/span>Chris Uche, SAN<\/b><\/span>, and <\/span>Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN<\/b><\/span> \u2014 both appearing as legal representatives for the party. The judge, clearly unimpressed by the confusion, ordered both lawyers to file their papers so the court can determine <\/span>who truly speaks for the PDP<\/b><\/span> in this battle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Convention on Hold: What\u2019s at Stake?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

At the heart of the legal showdown is a suit filed by <\/span>three aggrieved PDP chieftains<\/b><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Hon. Austin Nwachukwu<\/b><\/span> (Imo PDP Chairman)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Hon. Amah Abraham Nnanna<\/b><\/span> (Abia PDP Chairman)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Turnah Alabh George<\/b><\/span> (PDP South-South Secretary)<\/span><\/p>\n

The trio is challenging the legality of the party\u2019s <\/span>planned National Convention<\/b><\/span>, slated for <\/span>November 15 and 16, 2025<\/b><\/span>, in Ibadan, Oyo State, where <\/span>new national officers are expected to emerge<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Umar Bature<\/b><\/span> (National Organizing Secretary)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 PDP\u2019s <\/span>NWC<\/b><\/span> and <\/span>NEC<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Ali Odefa<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 Emmanuel Ogidi<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Justice Omotosho has now fixed <\/span>Monday, October 20<\/b><\/span> for <\/span>definite hearing<\/b><\/span> of the originating summons \u2014 the day the legal fireworks truly begin. All court processes must be filed and exchanged <\/span>no later than October 17<\/b><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n
