He described the late monarch as a dignified and iconic traditional ruler, whose leadership was marked by honour, duty, and selfless service.<\/p>\n<p>In a personally signed tribute, President Tinubu praised Oba Adetona\u2019s legacy of promoting unity and development across Ijebu-Ode and the larger Ijebu region. \u201cHis reign brought progress and transformation through steadfast leadership and vision,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that Oba Adetona ascended the throne at just 26 years old and became a consistent voice of reason during times of national uncertainty. \u201cHe stood as a symbol of stability and championed peace, progress, and national cohesion,\u201d the President noted.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu reflected on their personal relationship, saying, \u201cI found his presence comforting, his wisdom enlightening, and his honesty deeply empowering.\u201d He also acknowledged the monarch\u2019s contributions to education and public service, especially through the governance school at Olabisi Onabanjo University.<\/p>\n<p>The President expressed his condolences to the royal family, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and the people of Ogun State and Ijebuland. He prayed for Oba Adetona\u2019s peaceful rest and called for strength to uphold his enduring legacy.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Dapo Abiodun officially announced Oba Adetona\u2019s passing in a statement released Sunday in Abeokuta by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland,\u201d the governor stated. He added that Oba Adetona died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91, on the same day former President Muhammadu Buhari also passed away in a London hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Abiodun described the late monarch\u2019s reign\u2014beginning in 1960\u2014as a transformative era. \u201cOba Adetona was a beacon of unity, cultural preservation, and progressive development,\u201d he said. \u201cHis commitment to education, healthcare, and economic growth significantly impacted Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor highlighted Oba Adetona\u2019s role in elevating the Ojude Oba festival to international prominence and turning Ijebuland into a vibrant center of commerce and tradition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his extraordinary life and the legacy he leaves behind,\u201d Abiodun said. \u201cHis wisdom and dedication to his people will remain in our hearts.
