The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has elected unopposed the incumbent Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soludo emerge winner of the election with three thousand, one hundred and sixty-eight delegates from the three hundred and twenty six wards, cutting across the twenty one local government areas of the state who converged on Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, where they confirmed the Governor as their sole candidate through a \u201cyes\u201d or \u201cno\u201d vote.<\/span><\/p>\n

The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Anambra State has, however, been hit with controversy, as disputes over parallel delegate lists threaten to derail the process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The party\u2019s primary election, scheduled for April 5, 2025, was intended to select a candidate for the November 8 governorship election. However, allegations surrounding three conflicting delegate lists have created chaos and deepened the crisis within the party.<\/span><\/p>\n

Information available to Ikengaonline has it that Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and Professor Obiora Okonkwo have been locked in a battle over the authenticity of the delegate list since Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was also gathered that the only list initially circulating for the primary election appeared to favour Ukachukwu. However, by yesterday evening and into this Saturday morning, a new list allegedly surfaced, seemingly supporting Prof. Okonkwo.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, another list has emerged reportedly backing Chief John Bosco Onunkwo. This development has only added to the turmoil within the party, casting picture as to why Paul Chukwuma resigned from the party primaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other developments, it was learnt that thugs loyal to an aspirant, Nicholas Ukachukwu, allegedly in concert with some security officials, violently disrupted the APC delegate accreditation process at the Beautiful Gate Hotel, Awka.<\/span><\/p>\n

The hotel gate had reportedly been taken over by Ukachukwu\u2019s private security operatives and suspected thugs, who, with apparent support from police personnel on the ground, began to prevent accredited delegates without Ukachukwu\u2019s campaign identification from accessing the venue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those present at the venue said the gate was barricaded, and only individuals carrying Ukachukwu-branded ID cards were allowed entry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Delegates supporting other aspirants were turned away, harassed, and in some cases, physically assaulted.<\/span><\/p>\n

One male delegate was visibly rough-handled by the attackers in full view of security personnel and other delegates.<\/span><\/p>\n

The incident raised serious concerns about the integrity and fairness of the ongoing primary process.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a serious matter,\u201d said one observer who asked not to be named due to safety concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not just thuggery anymore; there appears to be active collusion with security forces meant to protect us.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe APC leadership must act decisively to ensure the safety of delegates and uphold the credibility of the process.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis kind of thuggery cannot be allowed to go unchecked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Disillusionment and anger spread rapidly among supporters of rival aspirants, many of whom were seen leaving the venue in frustration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Confirming the development was Anambra State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Dr Valentine Oliobi.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it is true. Delegates are being stopped at the gate by Nicholas Ukachukwu\u2019s people, and the police are cooperating with them. It is not what the party stands for,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a swift reaction, the Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation also condemned the violence and exclusionary tactics.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of Ozigbo, campaign spokesperson, Ephraim Adiele, decried what he called an attempt to \u201chijack the primary\u201d through intimidation and force.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe reject the politics of violence and call for a level playing field,\u201d Adiele said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cClearly, Nicholas Ukachukwu is seeking to hijack the primary. It cannot stand. The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) should act now to prevent crisis.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

At the time of this report, Nicholas Ukachukwu\u2019s camp has not issued any public response to the accusations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The APC national leadership has also remained silent.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the APGA primary, out of a total of 3,175 delegates who were accredited, 3,172 votes were cast, with four invalid votes.<\/span><\/p>\n

A voice vote by delegates from the twenty one local government areas also went further to confirm the results of the balloting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Addressing the delegates, APGA State Chairman, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, said what was witnessed in the primary election was an expression of what people have seen over the years under the transformative leadership of the Governor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chairman of the Primary Election Electoral Committee, Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, noted that Governor Soludo\u2019s adoption as the sole candidate of the party, as well as the entire process complies with the electoral act, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

Accepting the nomination and confirmation, Governor Soludo described the mandate and support as unprecedented, soliciting for support to continue with the progressive movement in Anambra.<\/span><\/p>\n

While announcing and nominating Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim as his running mate, the Governor stressed that Anambra is on the rise, noting that the revolution in all sectors will continue to be deepened, working with the five pillars of development.<\/span><\/p>\n
