{"id":93456,"date":"2025-03-29T17:11:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T17:11:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=93456"},"modified":"2025-03-29T17:11:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T17:11:40","slug":"efcc-visits-aisha-achimugus-home-as-atiku-says-drama-is-to-advance-tinubus-interest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=93456","title":{"rendered":"EFCC visits Aisha Achimugu&#8217;s home as Atiku says drama is to advance Tinubu\u2019s interest"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_65611\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65611\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-65611\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Atiku-Tinubu-768x433-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Atiku-Tinubu-768x433-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Atiku-Tinubu-768x433-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Atiku-Tinubu-768x433-1.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65611\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Atiku and Tinubu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A few days after declaring Abuja socialite, Aisha Achimugu, wanted <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have allegedly visited her Asokoro District home in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Reports say her mother was questioned on the whereabouts of the fleeing Aisha; but there have been no independent\u00a0 verification of the report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Meanwhile, the EFCC has denied any links between its investigations of Ms Achimugu<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"> with political undercurrents involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Lagos State Governor,\u00a0 Babajide Sanwo-Olu.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In a statement, the commission &#8216;s spokesman, Mr. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Dele Oyewale, said: &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">We wish to state unequivocally that the investigations of Achimugu have no correlation of any kind with the two political actors.\u00a0 She is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering and has since been declared Wanted by the Commission. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;The EFCC commenced investigation of Achimugu in 2022 and though she approached the court to obtain an injunction restraining the Commission from arresting, investigating, inviting or detaining her for any alleged criminal act,\u00a0 the injunction was challenged and vacated on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;The court ruled that \u201c\u2026no court has the power to stop the investigative powers of the Police or EFCC or any agency established under our laws to investigate crimes when there is reasonable suspicion of commission of a crime or ample evidence of commission of an offence by a suspect\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;The court further upheld the interim order of forfeiture of assets of Achimugu suspected to be proceeds of crime, dismissing her suit against it as lacking \u00a0merit .<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;The foregoing clearly establishes that the EFCC\u2019s case against her has no immediate or remote nexus with any politician or any veiled or open reference to any political engagement or transaction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;The EFCC is non-partisan and non-sectarian.\u00a0 We enjoin the public to continue to keep faith with the professionalism of the Commission without imputing any extraneous consideration to its works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Elsewhere, Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned against using the investigation to target him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A statement by Atiku\u2019s spokesman, Mr. Paul Ibe, noted media reports that the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through Ms Aisha Achimugu, made Lagos government money to available to Atiku. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;Let it be known,\u00a0 that this is a blatant lie from the pit of hell; a contrived political hogwash, and a futile campaign of calumny aimed at advancing the political interests of President Bola A. Tinubu,&#8221; Ibe said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He adds: &#8220;It may interest Nigerians to note that the Waziri of Adamawa does not know Gov. Sanwo-Olu and indeed has never met him before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;This piece of kindergarten propaganda is beneath the camp of Tinubu. How is it possible for an Atiku that does not know and had no connection with Sanwo-Olu to\u00a0be having a transaction with him involving the exchange of money &#8211; let alone during the Presidential election of 2023 in which his boss was a contestant? To what end would that be?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;We wish to, therefore, state emphatically and for the record that it is a political hatchet job aimed at providing a much-needed justification to jettison Governor Sanwo-Olu, who appears to have fallen out of favour with the &#8220;Bourdillon Cult.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;Indeed, their strategy is two-fold: get rid of Sanwo-Olu and to discredit the coalition being put together by the opposition political leaders, of which Atiku Abubakar is a key stakeholder.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;To even underscore how poor the propaganda is, an unnamed Sanwo-Olu&#8217;s aide is quoted in the news story trashing his principal and adding fuel to the fire. Pray, who does that?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;Since the EFCC has been dragged into the arena of politics and propaganda, we challenge the anti-corruption agency to make public the outcome of its alleged investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;Finally, it is not just the President that is entitled to that information but the generality of the Nigerian public, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party&#8217;s Presidential flag bearer in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;This voyage of misadventure and campaign of calumny against the person and reputation of Atiku Abubakar must be halted immediately and with alacrity too.&#8221;<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_250329_180558_065.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few days after declaring Abuja socialite, Aisha Achimugu, wanted for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering, officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have allegedly visited her Asokoro District home in Abuja.
