Those who can not afford the transport fare are staying back in cities and major towns to have modest celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holidays in a statement on Wednesday by the ministry\u2019s permanent secretary, Magdalene Ajani.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The minister congratulated all Muslims for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He urged all Muslims to \u201cembrace the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity and peace, emphasising the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in building a harmonious society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Tunji-Ojo called on Nigerians to use this festive period to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity of the nation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He expressed hope that the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr would inspire unity and cooperation across religious and ethnic lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cDr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cOn behalf of the Federal Government, he extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone,\u201d the statement read.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_250328_142445_114.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1 have been declared as public holidays by the Federal Government to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration; but many Nigerians,\u00a0 who can afford it, have begun travelling to their ancestral homes for the festivities.
