{"id":93013,"date":"2025-02-18T15:47:04","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T15:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=93013"},"modified":"2025-02-18T15:47:04","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T15:47:04","slug":"we-were-invited-to-safeguard-the-lagos-assembly-premises-dss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=93013","title":{"rendered":"We were invited to safeguard the Lagos Assembly premises &#8211; DSS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that it was at the premises of the Lagos House of Assembly on Mondat following a request by the Clerk of the legislative chamber to secure the place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Earlier reports said DSS operatives and policemen stormed the premises, sealing off the office of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, raising fears of a leadership crisis following the removal and replacement of former speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The secret police said its men went to assembly following a formal request made by the Lagos State House of Assembly itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In its statement, the DSS disclosed that it received a letter dated February 14, 2025, which talked about potential threats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The letter signed by the Clerk of the House read: \u201cThe impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly plans to resume office on the 18th of February, 2025, posing a potential security threat to the Assembly and its members.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_93014\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-93014\" style=\"width: 211px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-93014\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250217-WA0030-211x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250217-WA0030-211x300.jpg 211w, https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG-20250217-WA0030.jpg 619w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-93014\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Clerk&#8217;s letter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;In light of this situation, we kindly request that you take necessary measures to fortify the security of the Assembly premises with effect from Sunday, 16th February, 2025, by increasing the presence of your men and observing strict access control within and outside the Assembly premises till further notice.\u201d<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_250218_164235_134.sdocx--><br \/>\n<!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_250218_164235_134.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that it was at the premises of the Lagos House of Assembly on Mondat following a request by the Clerk of the legislative chamber to secure the place.
